Christmas Information for Schools and Teachers

WhyChristmas.com has been used and trusted for Christmas facts and information by Schools, Teachers and Students for 25 Years!

WhyChristmas.com has been online for 25 Years!

In fact, the site was first created, in the year 2000, for some teachers at a local elementary/primary school where I live in the UK. Knowing that I was a web designer, they came to me complaining that they couldn't find a site that was child friendly and "wasn't trying to sell the kids something".

So I made a little site for them to use with their classes in one school. Little did I ever imagine that all this time later, the site would be used by thousands of schools and teachers around the world! It's a great privilege to share Christmas facts and fun.

On the site there's information about:

More About the Site

The site has always had a 'no ads' policy - although I've had plenty of offers over the years! I run the site for the love of Christmas, not to make money from it.

The site is run by me, James Cooper, a Christmas loving web designer from the UK. I write everything on it myself. Several ESL/ESOL/EFL teachers have said the site is also useful for them as it's written in a way that's easy to understand. There are no guest or sponsored posts. And there's NO AI!

The site is updated as I find out new information. I do my best to make sure that all the information on the site is correct. Some of the sources I've used include books in my 'Christmas library', other Christmas experts, my own research and visitors to the site (mainly on Christmas around the world section).

Every year I get lovely emails from teachers, and students, saying how the site has helped them. Those emails make my day!

The site just has 'information'. It doesn't offer lesson plans, etc. There are so many different requirements for different curriculums that I'd never be able to keep everyone happy!

The site uses a special kind of copyright called 'Creative Commons' which means that people can use it for free, as long as they don't make any money from it - so that teachers and schools, etc. can easily use the site.

Safeguarding, Privacy and Accessibility

I take Safeguarding, Privacy and Accessibility very seriously. I am happy to help students as part of their education projects, by answering questions about Christmas. However, I will and do not 'chat' about things.

If I have a video call with any children for their project, I require them to be accompanied by an appropriate adult during the call.

Through the site's contact form I do get messages from children for Santa (even thought I make it clear on the page that the form won't email him!). I do not respond to these types of emails and they are deleted. If I receive information that suggests a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm I am required to alert the relevant authorities.

I also want the site to be useable by everyone! The website endeavours to conform to at least the level Double-A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. (This is what many global Accessibility laws are based on.)
